Biomechanical evaluation of diabetic foot through hierarchical cluster analysis

چکیده
Introduction Type 2 diabetes is predicted to become the 7 leading cause of death in the world by the year 2030 [1]. Diabetic foot is the most common long-term diabetic complication, and it is a major risk factor for plantar ulceration (PU), it is determined by peripheral neuropathy (PN), vascular disease, increased foot pressures, foot trauma, deformity and callus [1]. The aim of this study is to develop a methodology for automatic detection of patients at risk for PU based on 3 dimensional (3D) multisegment foot biomechanics through cluster analysis.

Photobiomodulation With Customized Insoles on Maximum Plantar Pressure in Diabetic Foot Syndrome Using the Biomechanical Model: A case report
A 49-year male patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus with diabetic foot syndrome was evaluated by comprehensive diabetic foot assessment. Photobiomodulation therapy (low-level laser therapy) was prescribed for neuropathic pain and symptoms with scanning and probe method for 10 sessions. Customized insoles were recommended for redistributing the plantar pressures and reducing stress on the diabe...
متن کاملA new classification of diabetic gait pattern based on cluster analysis of biomechanical data.
BACKGROUND The diabetic foot, one of the most serious complications of diabetes mellitus and a major risk factor for plantar ulceration, is determined mainly by peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathic patients exhibit decreased stability while standing as well as during dynamic conditions. A new methodology for diabetic gait pattern classification based on cluster analysis has been proposed that aim...
متن کاملClassification of Forefoot Plantar Pressure Distribution in Persons with Diabetes: A Novel Perspective for the Mechanical Management of Diabetic Foot?
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to identify groups of subjects with similar patterns of forefoot loading and verify if specific groups of patients with diabetes could be isolated from non-diabetics. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Ninety-seven patients with diabetes and 33 control participants between 45 and 70 years were prospectively recruited in two Belgian Diabetic Foot Clinics. Baref...

متن کاملHistomorphological evaluation of diabetic and non-diabetic plantar soft tissue.
BACKGROUND Diabetic foot ulceration has a complex and multifactorial etiology and can involve changes in the pathophysiology of the plantar soft tissue. In the current study, histomorphological analyses of diabetic and non-diabetic plantar tissue were performed. It was hypothesized that the diabetic tissue would have thicker skin (epidermis and dermis), less interdigitation between the dermis a...
